Dr Kathryn Hart PhD BSc (Hons) RD

After completing my practical dietetic training in Liverpool I graduated in 1999 from the University of Surrey with a first class honours degree in Nutrition and Dietetics.

My first dietetic post was at St Mary's Hospital on the Isle of Wight after which I worked part time in outpatient clinics for Portsmouth NHS Trust whilst completing a PhD at the University of Surrey. My research focused on the eating habits of primary school children and I worked closely with both children and their parents to investigate the best methods for improving the diets of young families.

In addition to my role as practising dietitian for ExpertEating I am employed as a Lecturer in Nutrition Dietetics at the University of Surrey. Here my responsibilities include teaching at Undergraduate and Masters level across a range of dietetic topics, including dietary management of coronary heart disease and factors affecting food choice, and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research students.

I am particularly interested in gastrointestinal conditions, including irritable bowel syndrome and food intolerances, and working with children and their families.

Dr Rebecca Hiscutt PhD BSc (Hons) RD

On graduation from The University of Surrey in 2001 with a first class honours degree in Nutrition & Dietetics I began my dietetic career as a research dietitian working at The University of Surrey. There I was part of the scientific team for Diet Trials, a project that investigated the effectiveness of several commercially available weight loss diets.

Following this research post, I worked as a clinical dietitian within both NHS and private settings gaining experience in acute care dietetics as well as providing longer term nutrition care through outpatient clinics. Nutrition advice given includes a variety of conditions such as diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders, cancer, disordered lipid levels, IBS, dysphagia and obesity.

I then began focusing further on weight management, researching cardiovascular risk of low carbohydrate diets for my PhD at the University of Surrey. This involved advising and supporting many individuals with their weight loss over 4 years and resulted in my doctorate in nutrition.

Establishing and working as part of the team at ExpertEating has allowed me to maintain my interest in a broad range of areas of dietetics. I thoroughly enjoy working with both individuals and organisations and feel privileged to work in nutrition, a topic I am passionate about.
