Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) can cause a range of symptoms which can make life uncomfortable and can have health implications. However, a number of these symptoms can be managed through diet and lifestyle changes.

Why might you need some advice?
- Diet and lifestyle can have a big impact on successfully managing the symptoms caused by PCOS.
- Weight loss (if appropriate) can help improve hormone imbalances which may lead to spontaneous resumption of menstruation; improvement in hirsutism, ovulation, pregnancy rates and long term ovarian function in general.
- Many women with PCOS have insulin resistance which exacerbates symptoms and has health risks.
- We can provide evidence based dietary plan designed to help reduce insulin resistance, manage body weight and reduce severity of symptoms.
What will we do?
- We will discuss your current symptoms and your concerns.
- Your individual dietitian will analyse your food intake- they are trained to spot areas in your diet which may be improved to manage your symptoms or to improve the overall balance of your diet.
- Discuss dietary changes which can impact on PCOS based on the latest scientific thinking.
- Your food preferences, medical and diet history and lifestyle will all be taken into account.
- If you wish a mini health check will be conducted. This will consist of your weight, BMI, body fat percentage and waist circumference being measured.
- Agree on dietary changes to help manage your symptoms
What will you go away with?
- Suggestions on changes which could be made to your diet to optimize your symptoms.
- An individualized meal plan. This will include lots of practical ideas based on the foods you like with meal and snack ideas provided.
- Your mini healthcheck results. If improvements to any of these measurements are recommended then achievable targets will be agreed.
- Appropriate information sheets based on your individual needs. Examples are; Glycaemic index, understanding and managing PCOS.
- All your questions answered!
