Why might you need some advice?
- If you are planning to get pregnant being the right weight for your height and eating a healthy balanced diet is really important and can help you conceive.
- During pregnancy, and after if you are planning to breastfeed, a balanced diet remains essential to ensure you have the nutrient stores required to support your growing baby.
- During pregnancy some nutrients are needed in greater amounts whilst some foods need to be avoided.
What will we do?
- Your individual dietitian will comprehensively evaluate your food intake and using a computerised dietary analysis programme will determine if there are any nutrients you may be deficient in or are having an excess of.
- Suggestions will be made as to how your diet might be altered to make it as healthy as possible.
- If weight loss is a goal (prior to conception only) a suitable programme for you will be discussed and agreed upon.
- We will discuss your medical history, diet history, your lifestyle and food preferences. In addition any issues from previous pregnancies can be discussed.
- If you are experiencing any symptoms associated with your pregnancy, e.g.; nausea; tiredness; raised blood sugars; appropriate dietary strategies to help manage these can also be discussed.
- If you wish a pre-conception mini health check will be conducted. This will consist of your weight, BMI, body fat percentage and waist circumference being measured.
- Answer any questions you may have.

- Nourishing meal and snack ideas
- A weight loss programme with a meal plan and lots of information and tips to help you, (only appropriate before you begin trying to conceive).
- Appropriate information sheets based on your individual needs including particular nutrients you need to take care with and foods/drinks to watch.
- All your questions answered!
