How can I avoid grabbing junk food on the run?

I have a busy job and little time for breaks during the day. How can I avoid grabbing junk food on the run?

Our expert says:

Firstly make sure you have a good breakfast to provide you with the energy and nutrients to need to work to your optimum throughout the morning. If you don't have time/can't eat first thing keep something at work to have before you begin. Ideal choices are;

  • Porridge or an oat based cereal which you can keep sachets of at work
  • Muesli packed with dried fruit and nuts with milk or yoghurt
  • A bowl of wholegrain cereal with milk
  • Granary toast with a small serving of peanut butter
  • Scrambled eggs on granary toast

Be prepared and keep healthy snacks with you. Great choices which will help boost your energy levels and maximize your attention and concentration levels are;

  • A small handful of dried fruit and nuts (take a small portion into work each day to avoid over-munching!)
  • A small piece of cheese and an apple
  • Some wholegrain/rye crackers with low fat soft cheese & a couple of cherry tomatoes
  • A low fat yoghurt and a plain biscuit
  • An oat based cereal bar-ideally one containing dried fruit and nuts
